With over 40 years of traditional bench experience, we expertly repair everything from modern engagement rings to cherished family heirlooms. We work exclusively with traditional precious metals: gold, platinum, palladium, and sterling silver.

A note on alternative and base metals: We do not service contemporary industrial metals (such as tantalum, titanium, tungsten, or stainless steel) or base metals (like bronze, iron, or plated fashion jewelry). These materials require industrial manufacturing equipment rather than traditional hand-tools, and they cannot safely withstand the high heat of a jeweler's torch. If you are unsure of your ring's exact metal composition, you are always welcome to bring it in for a complimentary evaluation.

Each ring is uniquely constructed, so final repair costs are determined after a physical inspection. To guide your expectations, our starting rates for standard bench work include:

  • Prong Repair & Stone Tightening: Starting at $60 (This rate reflects the repair of the first standard prong. Safely securing a gemstone often requires repairing multiple prongs or adjusting the setting, so we will provide a complete, transparent quote for all necessary work after an in-person inspection. Platinum work is quoted slightly higher.)
  • Cracked or Broken Band Repair: Starting at $95 (For fixing breaks or thin cracks in the band so your ring is safe for daily wear.)
  • Sizing Beads & Adjustments: Custom Quoted (The ideal solution if a ring needs to be sized larger to clear your knuckle, but twists or sits unevenly once it rests on your finger.)
  • Gemstone Replacement & Setting: Custom Quoted based on the specific gemstone type, size, carat weight, and required setting style.

Replicating Cherished Rings & Heirlooms

If a sentimental family piece has become too thin to safely repair, or if you are looking to reproduce a missing item, Igor can recreate heavily worn or lost rings from photographs or descriptions. We combine decades of traditional bench experience to capture the original spirit and beauty of your piece.

Please note: Extensive repair work or significant resizings may occasionally result in the loss of original manufacturer hallmarks, brand stamps, or interior engravings. While we offer professional engraving services and can reapply special messages, it is not always possible to perfectly match vintage fonts or original hand-engraved handwriting. We prioritize the safety and durability of the piece above all else.

Turnaround Times & Estimates

  • Standard Repairs: Typically completed within 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Complex Repairs: May require 2 to 3 weeks, depending on gemstone sourcing and setting complexity.

Getting an Estimate: We are happy to review photos via email to explore project feasibility and scheduling. However, all pricing, quotes, and project specs are completed in person. A physical bench inspection allows Igor to evaluate your piece accurately—especially for rings set with heat-sensitive gemstones like emeralds, opals, pearls, or tanzanite—before starting any work. Walk-ins are always welcome at our Brookline storefront for a complimentary assessment.

Intake Integrity & Bench Safety: Daily wear, soap, and lotion frequently conceal internal stone fractures, setting fatigue, or prior repairs. If your ring has a known repair history or unique delicacy, please share it with us at drop-off. For quality assurance, reference photos and intake notes may be logged at our discretion prior to service. All items undergo cleaning and bench prep before repair work begins. Jewelry Express Works assumes no liability for pre-existing, latent, or hidden structural or gemstone defects revealed during cleaning, preparation, or bench evaluation. Service strictly covers physical repair labor and excludes gemological grading, appraisals, or stone authentication. If hidden damage is uncovered during bench prep, work is immediately paused and you will be notified before proceeding.
