At Jewelry Express Works, our master jeweler, Igor, uses modern 3D design to help map out your ideas before handcrafting the piece right here in our shop.
Please note: Our 3D modeling process is reserved exclusively for creating new custom engagement rings, wedding bands, and original fine jewelry, rather than for repair work. We cast all of our custom pieces exclusively in traditional precious metals, including gold, platinum, and sterling silver.
We handle every step on-site at our Brookline storefront. By designing, casting, and setting the stones locally, we ensure your ring is crafted to exceptional professional standards without ever leaving our secure bench.

A Note on Heirloom Stones & Outside Mountings: We love reinventing sentimental heirloom diamonds and gemstones by crafting brand-new custom settings around them. To ensure a lifetime of daily wear, Igor evaluates stone viability and design specs—including metal thickness and prong security—prior to project approval. To protect your gems, we do not set outside natural emeralds, opals, pearls, or heavily chipped stones. Our preference is always to custom-craft the setting from scratch so it is built specifically around your stone for a secure fit and balanced seat depth. If you are bringing in a premade outside mounting, Igor will inspect both pieces in person to confirm a proper structural fit.

For bespoke pendants, earrings, and heirloom resets, email your concept to sales@jewelryexpressworks.com. To help Igor evaluate bench feasibility quickly, please include:

Note: We use email to explore initial concepts and scheduling. Metal choices, final design specs, and exact binding quotes are completed during your in-person consultation (or shortly after, allowing Igor time to calculate bench labor or source specific accent stones).
The Custom Design Journey: Step-by-Step
From your first conversation with us to your finished piece, custom crafting typically takes 3 to 4 weeks (subject to CAD revisions and bench capacity). Final project totals are calculated simply as: Selected Gem Price + Custom Mounting Design (plus applicable MA sales tax).

Initial Concept Consultation (Always Free):
We discuss your budget, stone preferences, metal type, and overall style. You are welcome to view and discuss our live, in-stock diamonds and gemstones in person with zero fee or obligation.
When you are ready to start your custom project, we begin with one of two structured deposits (both applied 100% toward your finished ring total):- $350 In-House & Lab-Grown Custom Deposit: For designs using our in-house lab-grown diamonds, in-stock natural gems, or customer-supplied heirlooms. Covers your initial custom 3D CAD design, up to 2 revisions, and a physical 3D resin model to try on. Deposits cover custom CAD and resin modeling and are non-refundable, with 100% applied toward your finished ring total.
- $500 Vault Natural Gemstone Deposit: Required when sourcing rare, high-value, or origin-certified natural sapphires and earth-mined diamonds from our supplier vaults (explore active stones in our Gemstone Vault). Covers fully insured priority transit to Brookline, a 7-day private shop viewing window, custom 3D CAD design (up to 2 revisions), and a physical 3D resin try-on model. Deposits cover insured transit and CAD and are non-refundable, with 100% applied toward your finished ring total (or transferred toward an alternate vault stone).

3D Design & Resin Model:
We draft your 3D digital model and print a physical 3D resin model. You can view and try on this model in our store to get a feel for the exact scale and proportions before we pour any metal. -
On-Site Casting & Clean Up:
Once you approve the resin print, Igor melts your chosen metal and casts the mounting right here in our workshop. -
Stone Setting & Finishing:
We carefully set your diamonds or gemstones and give the jewelry a beautiful final polish so it is perfectly ready to wear.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring in my own diamond or gemstone for a custom setting?
Yes! We regularly design and build brand-new custom rings around client-supplied diamonds, sapphires, and rubies. All outside gems require an in-person bench evaluation by Igor to verify structural integrity and take precise measurements. To protect your sentimental jewelry from setting pressure, we do not accept high-risk or brittle gems (such as natural emeralds, opals, pearls, or heavily fractured stones).
Can you set my stone into an outside premade setting I already own?
Crafting our mountings from scratch remains our strong preference, as building a setting specifically around your stone ensures a proper fit, balanced profile, and long-term security. However, if you already have both a stone and a premade setting, bring them by our Brookline shop. Igor will inspect both items in person to evaluate metal quality, seat depth, and prong alignment before determining whether they can be set safely.
Do you offer standalone insurance appraisals?
We do not offer standalone insurance appraisals for outside or inherited jewelry. However, for all custom jewelry created in our shop, we email you a comprehensive documentation summary upon completion. This details your piece's metal purity, carat weights, and gemstone specifications so you can easily insure it with your provider of choice (such as Jewelers Mutual or your personal insurer).
How long does a custom ring take to complete?
Custom projects typically take 3 to 4 weeks from your initial consultation through final polish. Timeline variation depends on CAD revision speeds, bench labor complexity, and current shop capacity.
Can I see what my ring will look like before metal is poured?
Yes. Every custom project includes a digital 3D CAD rendering and a physical 3D resin model printed right here in our Brookline shop. You can try on the resin model in person to review the exact scale, profile height, and proportions before we move forward with casting.
What if my finished ring needs a size adjustment?
We provide one complimentary sizing adjustment on your custom ring after completion to ensure a comfortable fit.
When is the remaining payment due?
Your initial deposit covers your 3D design phase and stone sourcing, and applies 100% toward your project. The remaining balance (plus applicable MA sales tax) is due upon pickup when your finished ring is ready. We do not offer financing or payment plans.
